Fertility treatments abroad to fulfill the dream of having a child of one's own

Swiss legislation imposes strict limits on reproductive medicine. Certain assisted reproduction procedures are currently not legally permitted in Switzerland or are restricted to specific groups of people. For some people struggling to conceive, the path to having a child of their own is therefore only made possible through medical services abroad.
However, a stay abroad raises many organizational, medical, and personal questions. At our fertility centers in Olten and Basel, we won’t leave you to navigate this journey alone. Fertisuisse stands by your side as an experienced and empathetic partner, supporting you with thorough medical diagnostics, handling targeted preparation and professional follow-up care in Switzerland, and providing open and honest advice on many aspects of your decision. This includes topics such as age-appropriate discussions with the child about their conception, the child’s right to know their origins, the role of the donor, and how to deal with potential social reactions and prejudices within your personal circle.

Overseas Egg Donation Treatment
For many couples, egg donation is the only medical option for realizing their dream of having a child of their own. In Switzerland, this procedure is still prohibited under current law; however, experts believe this ban constitutes gender discrimination. In reproductive medicine, sperm donation is permitted in cases of male infertility, but egg donation is illegal when the woman has medical issues, which is why the actual treatment must be performed at specialized centers abroad.
However, this issue is currently undergoing rapid development, as an amendment to the Reproductive Medicine Act is underway. Until then, experienced specialists at the Olten and Basel locations are available to assist affected couples, providing transparent information about the procedures abroad. In addition, comprehensive medical follow-up care after their return ensures that patients receive optimal treatment and care.

Overseas Fertility Treatments for Single Women Who Want to Have Children

More and more women in Switzerland are making a conscious decision to become single mothers—whether because they haven’t found the right partner or because their biological window of opportunity is narrowing. For so-called “single moms by choice,” however, the path to motherhood comes with unique challenges, as access to reproductive medicine in Switzerland is strictly regulated by law. According to the Reproductive Medicine Act, medically assisted reproduction using sperm donation is permitted exclusively for married couples and, since 2022, also for lesbian couples. For single women, this means they cannot access sperm donation in Switzerland and must seek treatment abroad to fulfill their desire to have children.

At Fertisuisse, with locations in Olten and Basel, patients are supported by experienced specialists who provide comprehensive information and counseling on all available options.
